Fruiting beneath Pinus sp. and multiple Thuja plicata along the property boundary at my parents house on Budd Street in Olympia, WA, USA. After shooting a short instructional field video and multiple field shots with my iPhone11 Pro Max I collected 5 specimens for home workup. Cap: deep orange red/viscid with center rapidly fading to pale cream(pale disc). Stipes: smooth, reddish orange when young. Not striate or roughened. Once home I mounted a single gill on a glass slide in 3% KOH. I shot a short video of the microscopy process and multiple photos of gill edge and spores using my Celestron digital scope also with my iPhone11 Pro Max(as I have done regularly with all my mushroom collections since June of 2020). Prior to June 2020 I used a number of different cameras for shooting fungi but I have found that consistently superior results can be achieved using my iPhone11 Pro Max instead. MICROSCOPY: Spores: ellipsoid, smooth, medium sized. Cystidia: long, slender, irregularly shaped(like tight bundles of sea monkeys along gill edge). I dehydrated all specimens thoroughly overnight and bagged for my fungal herbarium/genetic record.
