Morphology: acutely-conical with well-developed pointed umbo, then convex, lowly-broadly campanulate or nearly plane (often wavy), sorghum-, violaceous army- or Hay's- brown cap (btw. cream buff and chamois when dry), covered with twinkling softly appressed fine white fibrils (occasionally appendiculate when young), honey yellow apex; (carob-) brown gills adnexed to decurrent; white striated fibrous somewhat shiny stem stains soot black. Spore print: violaceous brown (initially with reddish tint). Spores: translucent, globose-ovoid [N=40] measure (5.3)5.6 - 6.9(7.3) × (3)3.6 - 4.3(4.7) µm; Q = (1.3)1.5 - 1.7(2.1); Me = 6.4 × 4 µm; Qe = 1.6. Measurements: [n=12] cap 6.7-26.1 (avg. 16.82) mm across by 2.3-6.2 (avg. 4.51), stem 0.9-3.0 (avg. 1.70) thick (nearly equal or tapering wavily towards base) by 17.6-28.8 (avg. 24.01) tall. Growth pattern: in nearby or tightly clustered caespitose groups. Habitat: strips of moist softened wood mulch surrounding cedar bushes at garden edge.
