- These are so common and cosmopolitan, but always fun to find. Also something to keep your non-mushroomer trail companions entertained while you are looking at something more challenging :) This collection had the darkest brown upper surface I've seen yet on this species. It was growing on a well-rotted conifer stump, which was almost certainly Picea.
